In the future we will live in a more networked service economy where the society is more communication and knowledge -intensive and provides adaptive and trustworthy services. This environment benefits from the modern ICT technology as natural part of business ecosystems as well as of human communities and interaction.

The change to a service oriented economy requires a number of major transition steps to be taken in the nature of business processes, in the user role in the processes and in the service producing ecosystems. This means more flexible and rapid services’ development and take-up processes than we see today. ICT-related services will be a major growth engine of the future service business growth.

The Flexible Services programme will develop and put into practice a modular service infrastructure and related ICT-enablers, service functionalities and tools which will leverage the growth in service business that is globally competitive. The business takes advantage of the current change of internet from a web of documents into a Web of Services.

The Programme creates an incubating ecosystem by bringing together Finnish and international multi-domain companies, research organization, public agencies and user communities.

The first Programme Phase is scheduled from 1.6.2008 until 31.5.2010. The planning for the next Programme Phase will start in January 2010.
