Flexible Services - a coherent whole

Flexible Services programme creates ICT-catalyzed service business for the global markets. The programme will develop and put into practice a modular service infrastructure and related ICT-enablers, service functionalities and tools which will leverage the growth in service business.

The programme produces immediate results through proven service innovations. In addition to forming an extensive collaboration structure, the programme will create breakthrough innovations in technology, user experiences, service concepts and infrastructure as well as business models. When combined and scaled-up, these parallel innovations will accelerate the production, delivery, sharing and use of novel services and generate business growth.

R&D Flexible Services programme focus on three main strategic themes:

Ubiquitous access to services
- architectural and process design and common service space to address

Service infrastructure
- mobile and ubicom technology, aims at enabling entirely new ways to service use

User centric service creation
- involves the end users and user groups, service providers, operators and application developers
More clearly, the Programme has three areas of priorities which guide the practical research work towards:

The next Programme phase

- enabling ICT-technologies and mobile cloud value network

- industries providing the service concepts

- user research and user experience

Collaborative way of working

The programme goal can be achieved by collaborative way of working and clear research focus. The success is based on the unique knowledge of different research partners. The way of working follows an iterative mode. Thus, the success is firstly based on four vertical application and business oriented projects. They provide business-driven concrete concepts, realistic and clear cases which have users in the middle. The projects have an ability to finalize results into actual ICT-enabled service pilots and provide plenty of data and empirical material. Secondly, two projects aim to generalize and put the results in a wider context and expand the knowledge of Flexible Services on long-term aspects.

Flexible Services programme has NEW matrix ways of working in large and diverse groups. Programme has large coverage of actors and research domains. There is lots of cross-fertilization in the programme in order to have a strong impact on the research development beyond the current state-of-the-art in a cost efficient way.
